On our route today we passed through the town of Joplin. Late Sunday afternoon on that May day a massive tornado formed(within 10 minutes or so) and cut a swathe of destruction about 1.6 km wide through the southern part of the city and out into the surrounding country side. We were able to drive through part of the devastated area. It is hard to visualise the extent of the damage from the tv coverage or these photos.
